Fun Football
Under 7s and Under 8s

Our Fun Football programme is open to players aged 6-8 years of age and is part of NZ Football's Whole of Football Framework. Please read on for all of the information that you will need for players within this group :)

Game Days (for Girls Only game day information please click here)
  • Game Days are on Saturdays and we will kick things off at 9am sharp.
  • Games Days take place on Newtown Park 2 (the park just above the Athletics Track at Newtown Park)
  • The players will play 4 x 12 min games and finish at 10am
  • In this grade, teams play 5-a-side, with no goalkeepers, and on a small pitch
  • Our qualified Coaches will be present at game days and trainings and are supported by our good sort Coaches :)
  • BONUS | We aim to finish each Game Day with our famous Club BBQ (weather dependent) for all Under 7 and 8 kids that want to stick around and have a well-earned snack!  Each team will rotate the responsibility for the BBQ, so it will be great to have all parents involved in helping out 😊

Festival Days
  • Every 3rd week (Saturday) will be a Festival Day, where we will either host or travel to other clubs in Southern Wellington
  • The other parks for Festival days are Miramar Park and Wakefield Park (Island Bay)
  • First Festival Day will be advised as soon as we know.
  • Expect the starting time to be different to our normal start time, though still in the morning.

Skill Development Sessions (Trainings)
We really love our Skill Development Sessions! These sessions are indoors at the ASB Sports Centre and are led by one of our qualified coaches :) They also offer a parents and guardians a nice reprieve from the winter elements.

Generally these sessions will run on Mondays at 4:00pm.

All Under 7 & 8 players are welcome, and train together.  The kids will go through  fun footballing activities, based on a Station Rotation, and we will always finish the session with some small sided games.  The qualified Coaches and good sort Coaches will lead these activities.

We have a weekly theme and skill focus; which will be the core footballing skills that we are focussing on. We welcome parents to support their children in practicing these skills and provide encouragement and praise when the kids both attempt and demonstrate these skills during games :)

Teams and Coaches
Each team will have a designated good sort Coach (who will be a parent volunteer), who will work with the players on Game Days and at the Skill Development Sessions.

Our good sort Coaches help to ensure that we have a fantastic training and playing environment for our kids. We are always on the look out for more good sorts, so if you are keen to get involved please let us know :)

We will place children into teams before the first game day of the season and will advise you of this.

Uniform
The uniform for Wellington United club teams is:
  • Royal Blue Nike shorts
  • Royal Blue Nike socks
  • Game Day shirts - these are provided by the club and are to be worn on Game Days only. They must be returned to the club at the end of the season and remain the property of the Wellington United.

Players will also need:
  • Football boots
  • Shin pads - compulsory and are to be worn under the socks
  • Suitable indoor shoes for training sessions at ASB Sports Centre
