The Diamonds weren't shinning, three weeks ago they came of Karori Park, having dominated the game but on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline. They were determined to make amends for this slip up, however Waterside Karori seemed equally determined to prove they were worth the three points they had gained back then. It set up an intense battle that could have gone either way.
Diamonds were without the midfielder Charlotte Wilford Carroll who was away, while Libby Browne was added to the long list of Diamonds injuries during the week, it meant starts for Emma Main and Katie Barrott. It wasn't a great start in terms of injuries when captain Sarah Alder had to come off after 14 minutes due to a hamstring strain.
It was Waterside Karori who opened the scoring through the impressive Kaley Ward connecting on to a ball cut back from the by line in the 21st minute.
United struggled to adapt to a midfield without Charlotte Wilford Carroll for a bit in the first half, but soon found their stride and were utilising the wings of Dani Ohlsson and Jemma Robertson well. It was just before half time when the persistence paid off, a cross ball into the penalty area found Katie Barrott who hit a shot straight into a defender but it fell nicely for Jemma Robertson who hammered her shot into the top of the net.
It was a much needed goal and gave the Diamonds a lot more confidence going into the break and in the second half they started to take more control of the game. Kelsey Wilkinson came on in the 70th minute and Waterside Karori struggled to cope with her pace. However it was the pace of Jemma Robertson that caught them out, when she made one of her typical darting runs into the penalty area she was clipped by a Waterside Karori defender. The resultant penalty gave Robertson her 12th goal of the season and her third penalty in two weeks.
The goal was enough to give Diamonds a 2-1 win and keep them top of the table on goal difference.
