Who First Kicks is suited to:
Our First Kicks programme is designed for young players who are new to football or in their early years of playing. This grade focuses on creating a fun, positive, and supportive environment where children can develop confidence, basic football skills, and a love for the game. Players are mixed-gender, and all abilities are welcome.
What a Typical Season Looks Like:
The junior football season typically aligns with School Terms 2 and 3 with additional football opportunities provided throughout the year through our Golazo Skills Sessions, Golazo Academy Sessions and School Holiday Programmes.

Our sessions align with New Zealand Football’s Whole of Football Plan 2.0, ensuring players develop at the right pace in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. Above all, we want every child to feel welcomed, valued, and excited to come back each week.
Coaching & Player Support
Our First Kicks Programme is led and overseen by our qualified coaches. With the age of the children, and to help keep costs down, we do require coaching support from parents.
We provide:
No previous coaching experience is required - just enthusiasm, positivity, and a willingness to help our young players enjoy their football journey.

Wellington United offers a clear and inclusive player pathway from junior football through to youth, to senior, and competitive football, including strong girls’ and women’s pathways. Our goal is to support players at every stage of their development, whether their ambition is social football, competitive pathways, coaching, refereeing, or a lifelong enjoyment of the game.

- Saturday morning football sessions | At this age, sessions and games are designed to be short, fun, engaging, and inclusive, with a strong emphasis on enjoyment, movement, and skill development rather than competition or results.

Football Kit / Team Uniform :)
The uniform for Wellington United club teams are:
- Royal Blue Nike shorts.
- Royal Blue Nike socks.
- Safety Orange Nike shirt - these are provided by the club and can be worn on Game Days and during Trainings only. They must be returned to the club at the end of the season and remain the property of the Wellington United. Some guardians prefer to purchase their own playing shirts for their children. They can do so through the link below.
Hoodies and other Club Items are also available for purchase. Delivery is really prompt too! :)
Families will also need to provide:
- Football boots or suitable sports shoes
- Shin pads (are compulsory and are to be worn under the socks)
- A drink bottle
