Girls may play in the Saturday Mixed Leagues, the Girls Sunday League or both. By playing on Sunday, the Girls competitions allow girls with other winter sport Saturday commitments to play football alongside their other sports. Capital Football has made a brochure regarding the benefits of playing Mixed or Girls football. This can be viewed here.
Mixed Leagues
The Mixed Leagues run on Saturday mornings. Girls can play in an age group below their chronological age group. For example, an Under 11 player may play in an Under 10 Mixed team. In addition, an Under 16 player can play in an Under 14/15 Mixed team. Under 17 age players would either need to play Under 18 girls or seniors.
Girls Sunday League
The Girls Sunday League is available for players in the Under 7 to Under 14 age groups. Girls teams train once a week with a game on Sunday mornings.
Under 7 and 8 Fun Football
Girls Under 7 and 8 Fun Football game days are ran on Sunday mornings. Generally, because of participation numbers, the girls play a festival day every week. This involves typically playing 3-4 short games against teams from other clubs.
Skill training sessions for all Under 7 and 8 players (boys and girls) are held once a week at Akau Tangi. The players will go through 4 fun footballing activities, based on Station Rotation, and then finish the session with some small sided games. The sessions will be run by both our professional and parent coaches.
Each weekly session will have a football skill focus. This will be a core footballing skill, and we welcome parents to support their children to practice these skills and provide encouragement and praise when they demonstrate this during a game. We will share what we are working on each week with you.
Girls Skill Sessions and Talent Development Programme (TDP)
In collaboration with Island Bay United and Brooklyn Northern United Juniors, we are running an U9-12 Skill Centre and U14 TDP through our Girls South Coast Academy. For more information please click here.
We also offer mixed skill session options through our Golazo Academy. All female players can be part of our Golazo Academy. More information can be found here.
