Coco Heredia was the toast of Wellington United on Sunday, leading the way with a brace of goals to maintain United's unbeaten start to the season and see them move into the top position in a tight league.
Heredia opened the scoring in the eighth minute pouncing on a poorly hit pass by a Western Suburbs defender and with the keeper out of his goal, slotted in what was really a gift. That goal gave United a cushion to build on and they continued through the half dominating territory with the young Western Suburbs side unable to really create many opportunities, despite having the ball in possession for periods of play.
The second goal had a tinge of controversy about it from the Western Suburbs point of view, a corner had gone over to the far side of the penalty area and been launched back in, the ball bounced around and United's Joaquin Pedron got his head to it and it looped up and over the Wests keeper, he managed to get a hand to it and thought he'd done enough to keep it out but the assistant referee was well placed to see that the ball had crossed the line.
Six minutes later the game was settled when Coco Heredia scored with a shot that can only really be described as "a thing of beauty" . During training in the week coach Guille Schiltenwolf had told Heredia that he wasn't sure he had that great a shot in him. Heredia definitely proved him wrong, picking up the ball just inside halfway heading forward and dodging a couple of defenders when he was about 30 meters out he checked his options and then unleashed a thunderbolt of a shot which dipped nicely into the top of the net and made the score 3-0.
The win sees United move to the top of the table on goal difference, coach Schiltenwolf isn't getting carried away, enforcing to his team that they take things game by game and pointing out that while they are currently top there is only three points separating the top five and it is a very tight league.
