LIFE MEMBER - GUILLERMO SCHILTENWOLF
Tuesday 14 May 2024
On April 3rd, 2024, Guille Schiltenwolf was formally inducted as a Life Member of Wellington United.
It is with immense pride that we announce this prestigious recognition.
Below is the citation that was presented to him during the induction ceremony.
Guille Schiltenwolf has written himself into Wellington United folklore, as one of the most inspirational and successful coaches the Club has ever had the fortune of having. Since joining the club 14 years ago in 2011, he has created his own history in the fabric at United as the coaching inspiration behind our first ever Women’s National League campaign, 5 Women’s Central League/W League titles and 1 runner up, keeping the Men up in the Central League after less than 2-weeks notice of our promotion, 1 Premier League title and 2 runner up, 1 Kelly Cup Title, and of course who can forget our maiden Kate Shepard Cup finals victory in 2021, and for the first time in Wellingtons long football history! He has had a multitude of roles over his time with us and has been joined along the way by some great coaches, however he has been the one true constant and his legacy continues to shine through on and off the football field.
Guille had a less than auspicious start with the club, his first game as head coach was a 12-2 loss. Undeterred, Guille has stuck it out (and continues to stick it out) for more than 300 games at the helm, and has an impressive statistic of winning around 60% of all games he has coached in. Designing and building a female pathway from juniors to youth to the Seniors stage has been his Everest moment at United, and provided some of the clubs proudest days and players.
But Guille’s successful track record, and impressive resume of titles and trophies is only part of why we are recognising him here today as our newest inductee to our family of Life Members. Results are one thing, but Mana is another. Guille hasn’t just built successful teams and coached players to be the best they can be, he has built a family culture within our club that is the envy of other clubs throughout the region and country. For Guille, the players, their welfare and development as individuals is paramount to his family succeeding together on and off the field. You cannot teach this at football school, or at FIFA seminars, or via online tutelage. This Mana comes from within, from selfless commitment to others and their goals, and an internal desire to be one of the best coaches this Club (and Wellington) has ever seen. Well, Guille has clearly done this and more, his dedication, patience, honesty and loyalty is second to none against a long history of very successful coaches and leaders at Wellington United.
Today, we recognise that and welcome Guille into the Guild of Life Members. Congratulations Guille, welcome to the Club.
