Kia ora whānau,
We are thrilled to announce our coaching staff for our Women's Teams for the 2025 season. These appointments reflect our ongoing commitment to building excellence in women’s football and providing the best environment for our players to thrive.
Steady at the Helm | Guillermo Schiltenwolf signs on as our Director of Football
After a remarkable coaching tenure at Wellington United, where Guillermo Schiltenwolf has helped to build a strong-hold of women's football, Guille will transition into a full-time Director of Football role for 2025.
Guille has held dual roles at the club for a number of years where his strategic leadership and deep football expertise have been instrumental in shaping the success of our programmes.
Together with Guille through his various roles, our Club has shared some amazing highs including but not limited to an incredible 6x Women's Central League/W-League Titles, the first ever Kate Sheppard Cup title to be won by a Capital Team, 6x Women's Premier League Titles, back to back qualifications into the Women's National League, and promotion of our Men's 1st Team back to the top flight. In addition, Guille has helped support numerous players to personal milestones through New Zealand playing honours, Professional Contracts, US Scholarships and numerous other International Playing opportunities.
His journey with Wellington United is forming a legendary chapter of our history and we are excited to be able to provide him with this dedicated role to really elevate our club's vision, playing philosophy and values across our wider club and for him to have the time to really support our Club Coaches in this expanded role.
Moving into this expanded role Guille commented "As I step into the Director of Football role on a full time basis, I am incredibly proud of our many collective achievements to date and I am equally proud of the family culture that we are continuing to grow. I am excited to continue to build our pathways both domestically and internationally.
With André taking the reins as Head Coach for the Diamonds, I am confident that they are in safe hands. His experience, passion and fresh approach will be invaluable for the team. I look forward to supporting André, Chelsea and all of our coaches as we continue to strengthen Wellington United and provide the best possible environment for our players to be their very best".
Reunited | André Cantin-Buckley to lead the Diamonds | Women's Central League
We are excited to welcome André Cantin-Buckley as the new Head of Women's Football and Youth Development, a role that sees him become our new Diamonds Head Coach! André’s coaching journey is a testament to his dedication to the game and his exceptional ability to inspire and develop players. We look forward to providing Andre with an environment where he can really succeed.
We have kept our eye on André ever since he coached with us a decade back! It was here that as a very young Head Coach, he helped inspire our Wellington United U19 Men's team to a Quarter Final showing at the 2014 National U19 Napier Tournament. He would later lead North Wellington to victory at this very prestigious tournament, a feat only matched by one other Capital Team (Wellington Olympic) in the last 10x years!
Since his time with with us, André has built an impressive coaching career both locally and abroad, gaining experience that sets him apart as a coach. After finishing his degree at Victoria University he moved to to Switzerland to complete his Masters while furthering his football education at the same time. He held a range of junior, youth and senior coaching roles at FC Bern, including coaching the U17 Men's Team to a regional title and qualifying for the National U17 tournament.
Upon returning to New Zealand, André took the lead coaching at the Federation level with Capital Football and held various roles at North Wellington before taking the lead of the Men’s Premier League team. In addition he has a vast amount of coaching youth through both the Talent Development Programme and College System. In 2024 he made the move to the Women's Game, taking the lead of the Victoria University Women's Team in the Women's Central League.
On returning to Wellington United, André reflected "Wellington United have set the standard for women's football in the region for a long time and I'm excited to contribute to that legacy. The club's investment in its women's programme is unparalled and it's clear that at Wellington United, it just means more.
Wellington United is a club that means a lot to me and I know that the Diamonds and I will be an excellent match; I'm passionate about helping players to improve, building a strong team identity and creating roles for players that suit their unique strengths."
André currently holds the NZ B-Licence and the Swiss C+ Licence. His deep understanding of football, combined with his studies in psychology and philosophy, equip him with a unique approach to team culture and player development. We are confident that Andre will be a perfect fit for the Diamonds and that his leadership style will help to create a new era of excellence for the Diamonds.
Joining André as Assistant Coach is Connol Modd who brings a wealth of coaching experience and technical expertise to the team. Connol currently works as a Federation Development Officer for Capital Football and holds the NZ C-Licence. He has helped coach the Capital Football Girls U18 teams over the past two years in addition to various roles at North Wellington including TDP and Senior Sides. We know that Connol's style will complement André's approach as their philosophies very much align. Together they will form a formidable coaching duo.
