Wellington United Diamonds overcame a potentially tricky fixture to record a comfortable win against Seatoun in the W-League on Saturday.
Despite Diamonds having won the previous seven fixtures, five of these have been by a one or two goal margin and its never a fixture they have taken for granted. Adding extra spice to the fixture this time was ex Diamonds, Hannah Wignall and Nicola Blacklaws lining up in Seatoun colours.
Diamonds saw the return of two players in Ella Wilson, back on holiday from Fairmont State University in the USA, and Briar Palmer who returns after a spell at French club La Roche Sur Yon and a short spell away from the game.
It took Diamonds just six minutes to find the back of the net when Liz Crowe latched on to a Dani Ohlsson cross to make it 1-0. 20 minutes later there were two goals in two minutes, the first to Jemma Robertson with her sixth of the season and then Dani Ohlsson breaking an unusual goalscoring drought for her, with her first of the season. Liz Crowe put the game beyond doubt with her second just before half time to make it 4-0.
The second half saw the introduction of Briar Palmer and she made the left side of the field her own as Wellington United dominated the game. Seatoun, while not troubling the Diamond's defence much played well, especially keeper Megan Willis, who made some great one on one saves and helped keep the score down. Charlotte Wilford-Carroll and Jemma Robertson completed the scoring for the Diamonds as they ran out 6-0 winners.
