Wellington United Diamonds Women's Central League / Women's National League
At Wellington United our women's side of the club continues to grow from strength to strength every year and we are proud to be one of the strongest women's clubs in New Zealand with FIVE fantastic women's teams playing the beautiful game (possibly six in 2024 - watch this space!)
We are club that doesn’t shy away from investing in our female pathway alongside our women’s teams and we are certainly reaping the fruits of this investment. Our top women's team, the Diamonds, has become a force to be reckoned with, with podium finishes for the last decade! There have been 5x Women's Central League Championships along the way as well (2016, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021) along with 2x Kate Sheppard Cup Finals (2021 and 2023) and a very special Kate Sheppard Cup Final win in 2021!!!
We are also very proud of the team for representing the Capital Region as one of the first ever club-based teams in the Women's National League in 2023! They more than held their own in the Women's National League with competitive performances across each game! Memorable games include a come from behind 5-2 win over Ellerslie in Auckland, and a gritty 3-2 win against a fairly stacked Wellington Phoenix Reserves team, who boasted no less that 5 of their 1st team squad!
Under the fantastic guidance of Guillermo Schiltenwolf, the Diamonds play attractive, attacking and uncompromising football. No player is above the team; they are a family who work hard for the players around them.
They are a pleasure to follow week in week out and we are extremely proud of the team. They deserve every success that they continue to achieve both as a team and as team members.
We are a family, and although we are of course very proud of our strong history on the field, we are especially proud of the progress that our club has made for our Diamonds and women's football off the field. This has been a real team effort, and further enhancing our women's programme is a key are of focus without our Club's Strategic Plan. One of our goals is to have the best player training and playing environment in the Women's National League.
We would also like to acknowledge the team behind the scenes! Guillermo, who doubles as our Director of Football, ever-present ultra Manager Justine Empson and Goal Keeper Coach Crawford Plenderleith, our wider team, our sponsors and funders, our supporters, our friends and of course our family :)
