Two early kick offs for Wellington United's men's and women's teams saw them both record away wins to maintain their league challenges.
The Diamonds visited Petone and made most of the running in the first half but despite some excellent work by Sam Wooley and Dani Ohlsson on the right hand side of the field creating many opportunities the Diamonds attackers were surprisingly lacking that final touch and went into half time at 0-0.
It took just a minute into the second half for Diamonds to find the back of the net, when Dani Ohlsson again broke down the right and got another cross over, this time Jemma Robertson was on the end of it to cooly slot it past the Petone keeper. Diamonds continued to create chances but were unable to add to their tally. Petone were also creating some chances, especially towards the end of the game but were unable to get anything past Molly Simons who put in a good performance in goal.
Over at Alex Moore Park in Johnsonville, the men's 1sts took on North Wellington in the Capital Premier division. They opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Captain Cam Stephan scored for the second game in a row. The lead was extended to 2-0 in the 41st minute when Jackson Straugheir scored his first of the season.
North Wellington pulled a goal back in the 74th minute when Lee Rufer scored from the penalty spot. Four minutes United restored their two goal lead when a Leo Villa free kick dropped behind the defence and Abdallah Khaled was able to keep it away from the advancing North Wellington keeper and scrambled the ball over the goal line. North Wellington made it 3-2 through Grayson Burston in the 89th minute leading to a tense last few minutes for United but they managed to keep North Wellington out and keep the score at 3-2.
