The Wellington United Golazo Academy offers players the opportunity to access academy training with our premier Accredited Coaches. The Academy is open to players from Under 9 and above. Below are the Golazo Academy Programmes that are currently running. Each Programme follows a tailored and enjoyable training curriculum.
Golazo Academy Skills - Under 9 & 10
This programme is open to our Under 9-10 team players. These sessions make up the second weekly training for our Alliance Teams. The sessions continue to focus on the players development of functional football skills and are run by our professional coaches.
Golazo Academy Under 11 & 12 Programme
This programme is aimed at our Under 11 and 12 Alliance team players. The programme aims to have a consistent environment for the season and each team will have professional coach support at one training and some game days. As part of the programme, these teams will train twice a week. The sessions will emphasise the game and focus on developing functional football skills in a fun and engaging environment.
Girls Skills
For girls aged 8-12, these sessions are ran together with Brooklyn Northern United and Island Bay United during Terms 1-4 through our South Coast Academy. The aim of these sessions will be for the girls to have fun and develop Football Technique and Game Insight through small sided games.
Pre-Season Skills
Open to all players from First Kicks to Under 12, these sessions offer an opportunity to get back into football and prepare for the winter season with our Professional Coaches. The aim of the sessions will be for the kids to have fun and learn new football habits, such as, running with the ball, receiving and turning, shooting and decision making in small sided games.
Term 4 Skills
Open to all players from First Kicks to Under 12, these sessions offer an opportunity to keep practicing and working on your football skills during the off season with our Professional Coaches. The aim of the sessions will be for the kids to have fun and learn new football habits, such as, running with the ball, receiving and turning, shooting and decision making in small sided games.
Youth Talent Development Programme (TDP)
The New Zealand Football Talent Development Programme (TDP) looks to provide an aligned and co-ordinated approach to the development of high potential youth footballers (aged 13-17). It aims to maximise player development by providing a challenging and structured programme for players. To run a TDP, clubs must obtain a license by meeting a number of New Zealand Football standards. These and more TDP information can be found here.
Currently, the club is running a Girls Under 14 TDP through our South Coast Academy
Costs and Enrolment
There is an additional cost on top of normal fees to be involved in the Golazo Academy Programmes. Fees for the Academy for the 2023 season are still being finalised. Enrolment into these programmes and payment is done via Friendly Manager.
Wellington United are keen to support sporting opportunities irrespective of ability to pay. Assistance may be available through our scholarship programme for those with genuine financial hardship.
